What if I could only sing 1 song? What would it be? What would it be about? The answer was easy. I would confess Jesus, amen. But what could I sing about Him in one song Whom every book ever written and all to be written could not express His majesty, His mercy, His beauty… So tonight since I have to choose one thing… I confess to You, Lord, to those listening and to everything created on the earth, above the earth and below the earth that Jesus is worthy. He is the Only One Worthy, Son of Man and Son of God, Jesus the Christ, amen!

A praise offering – celebrating the birth of Jesus in Scripture and in song

Behold He Comes!

O Come, All Ye Faithful – 1743 John F Wade, 1841 Frederick Oakeley (Public Domain)

Psalms 30:4 Sing to Yahweh, you His faithful ones, and praise His holy name.

Away in a Manger – 1885 Anonymous, 1892 John T McFarland (Public Domain)

Luke 2:7 Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough--because there was no room for them at the lodging place.

NARRATION: Luke 1:26-35The Birth of Jesus foretold...

Now in the sixth month of her pregnancy, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you!" Startled by his statement, she tried to figure out what his greeting meant. Then the angel told her, "Stop being afraid, Mary, because you have found favor with God. Listen! You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. He will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end." Mary asked the angel, "How can this happen, since I have not had relations with a man?" The angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come over you, and the power of the Most High will surround you. Therefore, the child will be holy and will be called the Son of God.

Mary, Did You Know – 1991 Buddy Greene, Mark Lowry (Word Music, LLC, Rufus Music)

Luke 2:19 However, Mary continued to treasure all these things in her heart and to ponder them.

NARRATION: Matthew 1:20-23 The Birth of Jesus Christ...

an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. "Joseph, son of David," he said, "don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he is the one who will save his people from their sins." Now all this happened to fulfill what was declared by the Lord through the prophet when he said, "See, a virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel," which means, "God with us."

O Come O Come Emmanuel – 1861 trans. John Mason Neale, Thomas Helmore (Public Domain)

Matthew 1:23 See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated "God is with us."

NARRATION: Luke 2:1-6 The Birth of Jesus Christ...

Now in those days an order was published by Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be registered. This was the first registration taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all the people went to their hometowns to be registered. Joseph, too, went up from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was a descendant of the household and family of David. He went there to be registered with Mary, who had been promised to him in marriage and was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to have her baby, and she gave birth to her first child, a son.

NARRATION: Luke 2:7-14 The Birth of Jesus Christ...

She wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no place for them in the guest quarters. In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, watching their flock during the night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. Then the angel told them, "Stop being afraid! Listen! I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people. Today your Savior, the Lord Messiah, was born in the city of David. And this will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a feeding trough." Suddenly a multitude of the Heavenly Army appeared with the angel, praising God by saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to people who enjoy his favor!"

When the angels had left them and gone back to heaven, the shepherds told one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see what has taken place that the Lord has told us about." DENIAL – have you denied Jesus? Are you denying Him today?

  • John 13:34-38 I am giving you a new commandment to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." Simon Peter asked him, "LORD, where are you going?" Jesus answered him, "I am going where you cannot follow Me now, though you will follow me later on." "LORD, why can't I follow You now?" Peter asked Him. "I would lay down my life for you!" Jesus answered him, "Would you lay down your life for Me? Truly, I tell you with certainty, a rooster will not crow until you have denied Me three times."

  • John 18:27 Peter again denied it, and immediately a rooster crowed.
  • RESTORATION – see clearly now that Jesus offers Peter restoration for every time he denied Jesus earlier… Jesus offers restoration to you today!

  • John 21:15-17 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?" Peter told him, "Yes, LORD, You know that I love You." Jesus told him, "Feed My lambs." Then he asked him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" Peter told him, "Yes, LORD, you know that I love You." Jesus told him, "Take care of My sheep." He asked him a third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" Peter was deeply hurt that he had asked him a third time, "Do you love Me?" So he told him, "LORD, You know everything. You know that I love You!" Jesus told him, "Feed My sheep.
  • There’s one more place in Scripture we see Holy Spirit utter the words “feed my sheep”

  • Ezekiel 34:8 'As certainly as I'm alive and living, My sheep have truly become victims, food for all of the wild animals because there are no shepherds. My shepherds did not go searching for My flock. Instead, the shepherds fed themselves, and My flock they would not feed!'
  • Ezekiel 34:15 I will feed my sheep and give them rest,' declares the Lord GOD.
  • Ezekiel 34:1-16 shows us a picture of selfish shepherds and in contrast Ezekiel 34:17-31 shows us showers of blessings

We have the choice today to be selfish shepherds or standing in showers of blessings.

Jesus is asking today “Do you love me?”

Our ability to love others hinges on how we love Jesus, amen. Peter had an answer for Jesus. It was, “yes LORD, I love You.” Just like Peter on the shore of the sea of Galilee each of us here today is being asked, “Do you love Me?” Will you receive restoration from Jesus Christ? Do you love Him?

  • John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!"
  • FREEDOM –SCRIPTURE

Where does freedom begin? Eternal freedom begins with GOD.

  • Isaiah 61:1"The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me; He has sent Me to bring good news to the oppressed and to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners; (the Prophet Isaiah writes these prophetic words 150 years before the returning remnant would even be needing this kind of encouragement as they returned from Babylon)
  • Luke 4:21 He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled, as you've heard it read aloud." (Read by Jesus, Himself, from the Scroll of Isaiah at the Synagogue in Nazareth 700 years after the Prophet Isaiah wrote it)
  • 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the LORD is the Spirit, and where the LORD’s Spirit is, there is freedom. (Paul teaching)
  • FREEDOM - APPLICATION

Have you ever heard the term “white knuckle driving?” It comes when driving at night or in adverse weather conditions and we’re afraid of losing control. White knuckles are also produced by just making a fist. However it’s not just a closed hand that creates white knuckles, it is the very last few degrees…it’s the squeezing entirely shut that creates the white knuckles. (TRY – if physically able) It is a physiological fact that muscles have memory, right. For example working out. The more you subject your muscles to a particular type of stress or activity they not only remember it, they become comfortable with it, even to the point of thriving on it… (EXAMPLE - CRAYON BUCKET: When I was a child, 1st year of grade school, I discovered something amazing! In a large play area at school there was a crayon bucket full to the brim with every kind of color you could imagine, it was a little one gallon plastic pail with an arched metal handle. Now I don’t remember how it came about, but one day I swirled that bucket around and was amazed that no crayons fell out. And before too long I was actually swirling this bucket full of crayons in a full circle motion over my head using my shoulder as the socket [so the bucket travelled the same trajectory or path that you would see a Ferris wheel travel at the fair]. Round and round, over and over. I do know that my teachers corrected me more than once, ok more than twice, on the swinging of the crayon bucket. But the point is this… every time I was done swinging that bucket my grip was so tight on that handle that I couldn’t let go, as a matter of fact I would have to take my other hand and pull a couple fingers away from the handle before my hand would begin to release the bucket of crayons). And that’s why I fully believe I am here today. Someone is holding on to something. Something they have become comfortable holding on to, something so long and so tightly now that you can’t let go of it on your own. (Remember it’s a fist we make when we are angry too, not just afraid) hurts, pain, bitterness, sin.. and we are trapped in our minds thinking no one else wants this trash, this ugliness, this horrible yuk. Well, that’s where GOD says otherwise. If we were honest with each other and with GOD I don’t think a single hand could be raised in this room declaring you’ve never been wounded, lied to, left physically, emotionally, or spiritually scarred in some way.

    HEALING – SCRIPTURE

  • Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope.
  • GOD doesn’t say here that we will not be wounded. Isn’t it an interesting Scripture to say prospering, (well-being, welfare, peace) and yet not harming (disaster, calamity, affliction, evil)… How can we be suffering hurts, wounds, and at the same time GOD be prospering us? At the same time still within the Father’s hope and plan?

  • Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, and He was crushed for our iniquities, and the punishment that made us whole was upon Him, and by His bruises we are healed.
  • Jesus was never too wounded to be used by GOD? As a matter of fact a man being wounded was was required of GOD for the redemption of creation...

  • 1 Peter 1:18 -19 For you know that it was not with perishable things like silver or gold that you have been ransomed from the worthless way of life handed down to you by your ancestors, but with the precious Blood of the Messiah, like that of a lamb without blemish or defect.
  • We are never so wounded that we cannot be used by GOD. We are purposely wounded, perfectly wounded…

PSALM SHARE – Wounded Man (a song of testimony)

Words & Music by William Joshua Triplett

    FEEDBACK – SCRIPTURE

What does it take to bind up the brokenhearted? Hearing the Good News. [[The Good News is this - that Jesus died on purpose and perfectly that we might have life. He rose from the dead after three days and is preparing a place for us in glory this very moment]] What keeps the bound up heart from breaking again? The hands of GOD, amen (Jesus & The Father).

  • John 10:27-29 My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life! They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. And no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.

  • Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, and He was crushed for our iniquities, and the punishment that made us whole was upon Him, and by His bruises we are healed.
  • PURPOSE: Ecumenical Service - Community Needs

PRAYER: Thank You, Father, for meeting the needs of this community. Thank You for placing us here in this time that we might be effective stewards of Your mercy, Your grace, Your love, and Your Word; the Truth that Your Son was purposely and perfectly wounded, might we fix our hearts on this hope and not just for ourselves, but for our neighbors. It’s in Jesus' Name we pray, amen.

No one has ever been so wounded that he could not be used for by GOD. Understand we are purposely and perfectly wounded to reveal GOD's glory.

WOUNDED MAN (A SONG OF TESTIMONY)

Words & Music by William Joshua Triplett

    [chorus]

Hello wounded man, my fellow wounded man

I’m no stranger to the road you’re on my friend

See the shoes you’re standing in?

    Guess who broke ‘em in?

You’re not the first purposely wounded man

And you probably won’t be the last… perfectly wounded man

    [personal testimony]

It was a day like this when I felt the weight of my sin

And it brought what I thought was a strong man to the ground

The life I claimed as mine alone

Was fought and paid for long ago

With Someone Else’s Blood, it was Someone Else’s Blood

It took Someone Else’s Blood to rescue me

    [chorus]

Hello wounded man, my fellow wounded man

I’m no stranger to the road you’re on my friend

See the shoes you’re standing in?

I know who broke ‘em in?

You’re not the first purposely wounded man

And you probably won’t be the last… perfectly wounded man

    [Gospel testimony]

Jesus walked to Calvary where they hung Him on a tree

    And GOD sacrificed Himself

It had to be a perfect Lamb

    Our only means of righteousness

Is Someone Else’s Blood, it's Someone Else’s Blood

It takes Someone Else’s Blood, to set us free

    (praise)

Thank You, Jesus, thank You, LORD

I’ve been purposely wounded (to be more like You)

I am perfectly wounded (Father, I think I finally understand… You have a hope and a plan)

    For every wounded man

PRAYER: This weekend we are engaging in three sessions of prayer and praise learning practical applications of GOD’ Word in a corporate setting, but understand the LORD is being sought after by each of us in a very personal and intentional way, amen. Just as there are three sessions to this event similarly Jesus was tested three times in the Gospel according to Matthew chapter 4. In every way tested Jesus deferred to GOD’s Word, saying “it is written.” First, like the temptation to turn stones into bread… are you relying on your own power, and not exercising faith? Where is your provision? Are you trusting in GOD and feeding on His Word?

  • Deuteronomy 8:3 He humbled you, causing you to be hungry, yet He fed you with manna that neither you nor your ancestors had known, in order to teach you that human beings are not to live by food alone - instead human beings are to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.
  • Second where is your protection? The tempter says prove it! Prove it to yourself! Prove it to me! Even taking Scripture and minimalizing it… see GOD promises not just to protect us from stubbed toes, but commands His angels to protect us in ALL our ways!! (Psalms 91:11)

  • Psalms 121:2 My help is from the LORD, maker of heaven and earth.
  • Finally, where is your worship? Satan wants you to bow down to him and not receive the glory that GOD has for you in His timing. Yes there will be agony and trials just like there was for Jesus, but the shortcut that the tempter is offering you for an early retirement is only death. GOD has a plan for you (Jeremiah 29:11). It involves living!

  • Deuteronomy 6:13 Fear the LORD your GOD, serve Him, and make your oaths in His Name.
  • Feed on His Word, find your help in Him, and fill the atmosphere with praises for His Holy Name. Your life will never be the same, amen

  • Romans 9:23 Can't He also reveal His glorious riches to the objects of His mercy that He has prepared ahead of time for glory—
  • 1 Peter 2:10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of GOD. Once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

PRAYER: This weekend we are engaging in three sessions of prayer and praise learning practical applications of GOD’ Word in a corporate setting, but understand the LORD is being sought after by each of us in a very personal and intentional way, amen. Just as there are three sessions to this event similarly there were three days and nights Jonah spent in the dark of a sea creature’s belly. Three days is what it would take to walk across Nineveh the city was so large. Have you ever run from the LORD? Jonah only cried out only when he was afraid of dying… it took three days! Can you imagine what it would have smelled like inside that belly? Well, fish guts, are rough! I’m just telling ya ;o) Some of us are trapped in the digestive tract of the world or the flesh or sin and it is eating us up. My prayer is beyond that of calling out to the LORD GOD at the last minute… no… I don’t want you to be consumed with the thought of dying… GOD wants you to consider living today! DON’T BE AFRAID OF LIVING FOR HIS GLORY!

  • Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment and condemn the people living today, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. But look - something greater than Jonah is here!

PRAYER:This weekend we are engaging in three session of prayer and praise and while there is a corporate atmosphere the LORD is being sought after by each of us in a very personal and intentional way, amen. Well as there are three sessions to this event similarly there were three times Peter denied Jesus Christ. It is only by the grace of GOD and the faithfulness of a loving LORD that three times Peter was restored on the shores of the Sea of Galilee at Tabgha by Jesus Christ. Have you denied Him? How many times is Christ going to have to restore you? I pray today is your Tabgha – the place at which the LORD chooses to meet you, asking even after denying Him…. if you love Him… . and assigning a commission to your life. He told Peter to feed His sheep… He has a specific work for you…. what is The LORD, Jesus, telling you today?
