Digging for Truth

(BIBLE DIGS: excavating the past & understanding the present)

  • Exodus 12:7 They're to take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat the lamb.
  • Exodus 12:22 Take a bundle of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and apply some of the blood in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts. None of you is to go out of the doorway of his house until morning,
  • Exodus 12:23 because the LORD will pass through to strike down the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the doorway, and won't allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you down.
  • Is your house safe?

You may be able to see from the pictures that the lintel spoken of in the Bible was not decorative. It was an integrated part of the structure of the home whereas it is popular in building styles of today to have decorative lintels that function only as pleasing to the eye, but having zero actual structural functionality for the home.

Are you covered in the blood of the Lamb?

Understand that you have a lintel. Something is covering you today. Is it an assurance or an ornament? What is insulating you today; pride, self-preservation, worldly aspirations, is the flesh ruling over you, are you unable to resist some temptation? Are your sins forgiven? Would you believe that they are already forgiven; past present, and future? All of them? (Psalms 85:2), What is at stake is acknowledging we have sinned and trusting in the One who has offered pardon on our behalf, Jesus Messiah, (1 John 1:9) who paid for them with incredible price, and accepting His blood as the atoning sacrifice being sufficient for all time and for all creation for those that call on His Name. So, the choice before you becomes, "life or death, Truth or decorative trim?" Do you choose to be covered by the blood of the Holy Lamb of heaven or something of your own making, your own creation, your own will?

Spend some time with the LORD this week and see what He says.

    Be blessed. Bless others.
