What is a psalmwriter?
The Hebrew King David is probably the most well-known of psalmwriters with the majority of the psalms, seventy-three, being attributed to his hand in Israel’s Hymnal, the Old Testament book of Psalms. His son, Solomon, is known to have authored one thousand and five psalms (1 Kings 4:32) and yet only two are regarded as being penned by him in the book of Psalms. There are actually examples of psalms and psalmwriters throughout the Bible and not just in the book of Psalms: Exodus 15:1, Numbers 21:17, Deuteronomy 31:19-22, Judges 5:1, 2 Samuel 1:17, 1 Chronicles 6:32, Isaiah 42:10, Ezekiel 27:2, Matthew 11:17, Galatians 4:27, and Revelation 15:13 to name only a few. A psalmwriter is one that composes music, words, or both to be sung in private or open worship. The difference between a songwriter and a psalmwriter is simple; one does it for his own personal joy and the other does it for the joy of The LORD. I was a songwriter for twenty years. And by a work of grace I'll be writing for His glory until He calls me home, amen.
The definition of psalmwriter was submitted and accepted to urbandictionary.com in 2013. Prior to this submission the only other presence the term psalmwriter had online was a book written by author Michael Sandusky.
What is 100psalms?
Simply put, it is a promise from my LORD & Most High GOD (in the Hebrew that would read Adonai El Elyon).
The LORD God spoke to me in 2012 in what had become a familiar, calm, and trusted voice He had used several times before when seeking Him in prayer, preparing for worship, and reading His Word. (John 10:27, Acts 22:14) He said, “Study My Word and write.” Shortly thereafter, and finally in prayer, He said, "I will give you one hundred songs.” (Matthew 13:8) This Website is named in honor and obedience of His promise. It wasn't long before The LORD began providing me words of encouragement and even showing me hidden things in His Word (Proverbs 25:2), impressing upon me ideas and book titles to research and write, and all the while continuing to minister to me through music; placing songs in my heart and mind. Thank You, LORD!
