* Hosanna (a song of praise)

William Joshua Triplett

Description:John 12:13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, shouting, "Hosanna! How blessed is The One who comes in the Name of the LORD, the King of Israel!"Song Story - I’ll never forget the confusion and chaos I encountered at an up and coming mega church one day outside of Raleigh, NC. At the time I had been working with choirs (traditional, contemporary, Hispanic, and Hispanic charismatic) for seven years. What I witnessed that Sunday morning was about a dozen people on a stage staring at their music, so fixed on the paper or tablet in front of them they were absolutely unable to engage the congregation and minister with the Holy Spirit. Yes, it was the latest and greatest Hillsong release from the radio or perhaps it hadn’t even made it to radio yet, regardless, the worship team had obviously not spent enough time in preparation with the material before bringing it to the congregation. What I mean is the singers didn’t know the words and the musicians didn’t know the notes. Can you love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27) when you’re hyper-focusing on timing, notes, and words?Psalms 33:3 with a new song, sing to him; with shouts of joy, play skillfully. I was lost in the assembly that morning. All I knew to do was to pray for the team and the church. That’s the day the LORD ministered to me personally the need for harmony in worship and that’s when He called me back into writing music and not just teaching music. As a result Hosanna was the first melody, rhythm and words I had penned in more than a decade. It was originally written as a call and response or sing and repeat song. For example: “call - Holy are you LORD, response - Holy are You LORD” because I knew that was one way for an assembly to easily be united in heart and mind in song. It was suddenly clear to me that not only were choirs poorly ministering to congregations due to lack of prepared hearts, but also because of a basic lack of Scripture knowledge. What does the Bible say about worship? No one could really tell me. Sure there were some some personal feelings, but very few people were actually able to share with me what worship means to GOD or to man according to Scripture. And that became the springboard for what is developing into an essential Biblical worship teaching for any follower of Jesus.Hosanna is currently in rewrite and we expect to be releasing an updated version soon with modifications in tempo, music and words.

* I Give My Word (a song of covenant)

William Joshua Triplett

Description:1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we have loved GOD, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning Sacrifice for our sins.Hebrews 13:20-21 Now may the GOD of peace, who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our LORD Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good to do His will, accomplishing in us what pleases Him through Jesus, the Messiah. To Him be glory forever and ever! Amen.I Give My Word is currently in rewrite and we expect to be releasing an updated version soon with modifications in tempo, music, and words.Composers: Words & Music by William Joshua Triplett Written: 2000-2014

Wounded Man (a song of testimony)

William Joshua Triplett

Description:Wounded Man started with a friend. It began with a broken heart and an attempt at consolation. I remember being told one afternoon of infidelity and how my friend was not able to sleep. He said he couldn’t concentrate. He didn’t even have an appetite. And he was thinking about asking his supervisor if he could go home from work. And that was the night I wrote the chorus, albeit a little differently, for Wounded Man. It went something like this:Hello wounded man, my fellow wounded manI’ve been down that road a time or two my friendSee the shoes you’re standing in… well, I broke em inYou’re not the only lonely wounded manThere was an arm in arm, like a solder to soldier, kind of thought that I wanted to pass along to my friend. I wanted to tell him he’s not alone in his hurt that I had been hurt before too. And I could relate to how he was feeling, to his pain. Where the song had common ground before it was only in pain and being wounded. And the solution to get his mind off his pain was to tell him about my pain and my being wounded. Now let me share why the song is different today and not just in lyrics, but also in love. Today the song Wounded Man offers the listener not just my compassion or the good intentions of a friend. It reveals GOD’s love. It exposes His willingness of being wounded for our sake. And it brings a message of hope today that there is purpose in our pain. There is even such a thing as perfect wounding. Now, I didn’t understand this at first to be honest and I was asking, seeking… so I looked to the Scriptures and I saw promises from the LORD in Jeremiah:Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope. So, you see I was aware that there was a plan, and to me it looked like it shouldn’t involve pain, shouldn’t involve wounding, and I couldn’t understand why people suffered wounds. And that’s when I was led to one more Scripture that I’ll share with you today. You see there can be purpose in our wounds. And there can be perfect wounding. And we have to look no further not at a friend, not at ourselves, but at the cross and two open arms and two hands that have been pierced:Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, and He was crushed for our iniquities, and the punishment that made us whole was upon Him, and by His bruises we are healed. You see we have an incredible capacity for wounding each other. We have an amazing ability to hold on to hurts and pain for days on end, decades even. And like this soldier to soldier, shoulder to shoulder, idea today we walk side by side in a throw away culture, “someone else can do that job… you can be replaced” friend I just want to speak that you were made for a purpose. And there is a place for you. There’s a plan for you. There’s no such thing as half a man in Christ! There is an opportunity for wholeness. There is an opportunity for healing today and it is in those wounds on Calvary. And those two hands that are waiting, open arms, for us just to seek Him and take His forgiveness. So let’s pray Father we thank You for this day. We thank You for opening our hearts and our minds to the idea of being wounded for a reason. And thank You, LORD, that we don’t have to look very far to see that You sent Your Son. There was purpose in His wounding. As a matter of fact there was perfectness in His wounding. Not a bone wound be broken You said… and that’s exactly how He was wounded. That’s what was required. So in our wounded place today. In our hurt and in our pain Father we turn to You and we thank You for Your gift. We thank You for showing us that it’s not for no reason. And it is in Jesus’ Name that we pray.Composers: Words & Music by William Joshua Triplett Written: 2014

Send Me (a song of commission)

William Joshua Triplett

Description:Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the LORD as He was asking, "Whom will I send? Who will go for Us?" "Here I am!" I replied. "Send me."Song Story - Each one of us has a gift, something to give, something precious that the LORD has uniquely and purposefully placed in the very fabric of who we are. When that gift from GOD is shared hearts are moved, and lives are touched. LORD let the ears that hear this recording know it is from You, may their eyes be opened to see the commission You have for them and the gift they have to give. Thank You, LORD, for Edward Dillon. He shared the Truth of eternal life in Jesus Christ with me. I occupied a pew for some thirty years before being asked, “Will, if for some reason you did not survive the night, are you sure you would go to heaven?” I thought I knew, but I had no immediate answer for him. For many nights I searched GOD’s Word and I sought the LORD personally in prayer and He showed me Ed was right. I could know with absolute certainty that I was going to heaven. Did I believe Jesus was the Son of GOD? Yes. Did I believe that the shed blood of Jesus covered my sins (all of them-past, present, and future)? Yes. Had I been baptized in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Yes. Had there been a heart transplant? Yes! You see friends, it had only been a very short time since I had suffered a job loss. I’ll never forget the feeling of “worthless” that just overtook my soul. Unknown to me at the time my identity was defined by my job, success in music and at work, and how much money I was making per hour. Boy, was I in for a pretty rude awakening when Jesus ministered to me in that time of despair… He showed my true identity was in Him, when He became sin for me, so that I wouldn’t have to live a life under the control of my flesh or my pride. I had confessed Jesus many years earlier, actually at age ten. I thought that was enough. I didn’t realize until opening GOD’s Word and seeing for myself that demons do the very same thing… they confess Jesus of Nazareth, the Holy One of GOD! (Luke 4:34) And yet there was never a marked change in my life. I never followed Him like one of His disciples. I continued to live my life with “me in charge” and just blamed GOD when things didn’t’ go my way. Boy, was Satan ever winning that fight in my life. I took communion, I made confession before GOD and men… I had done all these things that I thought guaranteed that I was a Christian. And suddenly I realized I had never done them from a new heart and a new Spirit. I had always done those things because it’s what others expected me to do or because I was looking forward to getting a reward in return. (for example: I would go to church with my mom because she promised if I would go she would take me out to breakfast and I knew that was special because we didn’t have much money, going out for food was not a common occurrence at our house) Oh, but friends I was never looking at GOD’s sacrifice. I was looking at my parent’s sacrifice, focusing on what they were giving and not what Jesus was offering in and on the cross, amen: total forgiveness of sin and redeeming love.Today my eternal salvation is secure, so secure that Jesus says I can’t be snatched from His hand or His Father’s hand, amen. He is waiting... Are you being stirred to seek GOD’s Word or His voice in prayer?Revelation 3:20 Look! I am standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he will eat with MeIf you do not know with absolute certainty that you are going to heaven please consider GOD's Word and His voice in the following verses: 1 John 5:13, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 3:15-18, Hebrews 6:19-20, Romans 1:16, Galatians 2:20, Luke 3:16, Habakkuk 3:18, Matthew 25:46, John 10:28-29. And talk to someone that will explain GOD’s gift of dying and rising so you can spend eternal life with Him.

Highway Nights And Interstate Days

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - Highway Nights And Interstate Days was written because I felt like I was following in my biological father's footsteps. He had opened shows for Barbara Mandrell and The Mandrell Sisters, Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton, and shared the stage with Doc Watson among others. At the time I really had no grasp of or experience with truck driving. It was simply a way to tell the story of a father and son sharing a common love of their work. The funny thing is that two years after this song was published I actually did learn to drive a truck and spent the course of the next ten years behind one of those giant steering wheels. Who says GOD doesn't have an awesome sense of humor!*Hard fact: I barely knew my biological father. He left when I was three years old. And yet I still wanted to be loved by him even more than I wanted to know GOD's love.Thank You, Father GOD, for Your amazing love.John 3:16 "For this is how GOD loved the world: He gave His unique Son so that everyone who believes in Him might not be lost but have eternal life.

I Like The Old You

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - I Like The Old You was always an absolute blast to play! Between the banjo and the fiddle there is a great pulse and drive to the song. The idea was “honey you don’t need to change… I like you just the way you are.” In making Undiscovered Country we literally set the material in front of three sets of musicians and three different studios before we felt like the music was getting what it needed. Giant thanks to Dennis Lind Beery for his continual pouring into the project as producer and friend.*hard fact: The world still tells me I need the latest gadgets & gizmos. My flesh still tells me I like the old you, Will.Thank You, LORD Jesus, for the new heart and new Spirit!Ezekiel 36:26 "I'm going to give you a new heart, and I'm going to give you a new Spirit within all of your deepest parts. I'll remove that rock-hard heart of yours and replace it with one that's sensitive to Me.

Paved The Way

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - One night I was visiting my older brother and he said hold on.. hold on.. He left the room and came back with his guitar and proceeded to play a song for me he called “Paved The Way.” He was so excited to share and passionate about the lyrics I could tell it was all very fresh on his heart. I think it surprised him when I didn’t really respond with the same enthusiasm. I remember walking away thinking the only thing that made sense to me was the title. So, I borrowed my brother’s song title and gave it different chords, melody, rhythm and words and it made the final cut for the Undiscovered Country album.*hard fact: Growing up without a father affected my brother and me in ways that we are still discovering today. We became experts at long distance relationship, even guarding ourselves from the very love of GOD.Thank You, LORD Jesus, for setting this captive free.Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me; He has anointed Me to tell the good news to the poor. He has sent Me to announce release to the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to set oppressed people free,

The Woman I Knew

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - The Woman I Knew was originally written "The Man That I Knew” and was going to be sung by a woman. You see, I thought it was men that were the chronic drifters from relationships. We may have had three or four different female singers in the studio to sing this song, but they never expressed the heartbreak or remorse on tape that we were looking for in the song. Every time we performed the song live we always sang it as a duet between a woman and a man. *Hard fact: People drift from not being anchored. I may have been quick to use the Name Jesus, but I was never anchored in His love.Father GOD thank You for the hope available to all in Your Son, JesusHebrews 6:19 That hope, firm and secure like an anchor for our souls, reaches behind the curtain

Undiscovered Country

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - Undiscovered Country was the name of the band and it fit the bill for describing an unknown independent country artist from Alaska. It’s what we called the project when mailing out requests for album reviews. It’s the publishing account name we set up with ASCAP and it eventually became the last song written for the record of the same name. We knew we liked the concept, but the words and rhythm never were settled until hearing an old song on the radio one day… (part of me wants to say it was an old Marty Stewart song, but like fiddlin’ Keith Junot always says… “It’s hard tellin’ not knowin!’” I do remember including a definition and a prayer in the Limited Edition CD jacket about undiscovered country: Definition - new territory, unbroken ground, where no one has gone before, tomorrow; Prayer - “May GOD grant you fair skies as you travel through your tomorrows (undiscovered country) and the strength and courage to break new ground.”*hard fact: I had no problem asking GOD for help, but in no way wanted to offer Him my life in daily service thinking that was reserved for only priests or preachers or nuns… Thank You, LORD Jesus, for calling a man like me to follow You.Luke 5:27 After that, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax collector's desk. He told him, "Follow me!"

Brothers And Friends

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - Life as a kid in the mountains of North Carolina was pretty sweet, well maybe more like semi-sweet… I remember one afternoon my older brother convincing me that I could jump anything on my Evel Knievel signature bicycle (with training wheels still attached mind you) So peddling as hard and as fast as little 15” legs can peddle I never successfully made it over that mud puddle at the end of our sidewalk… instead I was left drenched from head to toe in shock and my older brother was left to give account for all my scrapes and bruises that day to our mother.*hard fact: over and over again in my life I would rely on my family when the LORD was repeatedly asking me to trust in Him.Thank You, LORD Jesus.Isaiah 45:22 Turn to Me and be saved, all you ends of the earth. For I am GOD, and there is no other.

Closin' Time

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - Whether it was being performed for thousands in packed arenas or handfuls at songwriter circles the song Closin' Time always seemed to leave a mark on the audience. The full band version was never released. We chose to publish this more intimate acoustic version on Undiscovered Country. It's how we ended every show.*hard fact: At the very core of all of my country ballads was loneliness, a deep loneliness.Thank You, LORD Jesus, for Your filling love.Job 15:31 Let him not trust in a worthless speech. He leads only himself astray, for emptiness will be his reward.

The Little Things

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - The Undiscovered Country project had such a large and wonderful impact on so many lives. I wouldn't know what else to call it except a blessing. Thank You, LORD! The band had the honor of working with Pam Tillis, Trace Adkins, John Michael Montgomery, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Bob Thane Productions, Boy Scouts of America, Special Olympics, Armed Services YMCA, and many more. Bringing in the millennium on the Atwood Stage in Alaska’s Performing Arts Center was unforgettable but a real standout, heart grabbing, moment for the project came when we received a letter from a program director of a radio station in New York who shared that the song The Little Things was playing a role in the healing process of his listening audience following nine-eleven 2001.*hard fact: I never had a baby girl. While it is a beautiful lyric and thought every time I sang it I was exercising imagination and not sharing real life experience. There was no true witness or testimony in it, just art.Thank You, LORD Jesus, for showing me and so many others how to be a faithful witness.John 1:7 He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe because of him.

Trouble In Paradise

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - There’s a book, a school book, I remembered reading about titled “The New England Primer.” It was an educational textbook used for the early colonies in 18th century America. It had been my mindset in generating country music to be creating something like a “Honky-Tonk Primer:” A textbook for the troubled, an instruction manual for the injured, that would be filled with music that might speak to lonely hearts in watering holes the world over. “Honky-Tonk Primer” was in consideration as the name for the sophomore project to Undiscovered Country. The song Trouble in Paradise seemed to fit that mold perfectly; offering advice and opinion for the down and out soul.*hard fact: I sought truth for so many years in so many places… never considering it could be in a Person…Thank You, LORD Jesus, for speaking to me like You did to Thomas the disciple.John 14:6 Jesus told him, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Boy's Night Out (The Whiskey Song)

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - Boy’s Night Out would be considered by industry standards the most successful song from the country project to date. It received more radio play in more markets than any other (6 of the 11 songs form the Undiscovered Country album made it to commercial radio, a few even receiving what’s called “heavy rotation”) We used to give away a free drink to anyone who could list how many alcoholic beverages were listed in the song lyrics. *hard fact: People would have told you I was a good guy. Newspapers called me genuine. I would have told you alcohol is harmless unless consumed in excess. I can’t think of any major careless action in my life that didn’t involve alcohol. I thought it was necessary for having fun, for writing music…Thank You, LORD Jesus, for giving me the power to set the bottle down.Ephesians 3:16 I pray that He would give you, according to His glorious riches, strength in your inner being and power through His Spirit,

I remember The Rain

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - I Remember The Rain was a song for a friend. Honestly I didn’t remember the day we met, so there may or may not have been rain. It does seem people come into our lives for a season, a reason, or a lifetime. *hard fact: Contemplating missed opportunities in my past kept my mind from knowing the certainty of the hope and future that GOD had for me… and what a blessing indeed He had in store for me in Sheryl Lynn Triplett! Thank You, LORD!!Thank You, Father GOD, for having a plan for me.Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope.

Jenny

Will Triplett & Undiscovered Country

Description:Song Story - Something really interesting occurred when I moved to Alaska in 1996… I went to a concert and saw an opening act performing cover songs, someone else’s music, instead of sharing original music before the national or international act took the stage. My background had just been opening shows for major recording artists on the East Coast with an amazing band of musicians that is still performing today. And from that moment my mind seemed to take it as a challenge to present the fine folks in Alaska with a suite of original music as an opening act. I had been writing for ten years at that point and even had some material that had already seen arena attention, but had never made it to a recorded product. The funny thing is that everything that was released on both Alaska projects, Limited Edition and Undiscovered Country, contained no music written prior to 1996. All of the music we recorded in Alaska was written in Alaska. Many of the songs I thought would make the records didn’t and many that weren’t even penned yet came to be favorites. Jenny was the first song written in Alaska.*hard fact: Jenny was written as fiction; me trying to put myself in the perspective of being a little girl. There’s enough awe in Truth in each of our lives to keep any one of us busy writing for our remaining days. Continually writing fiction was one way I avoided facing some pretty tough truths about who I was.Thank You, LORD Jesus, for standing, knocking, waiting…Revelation 3:20 Look! I am standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he will eat with Me.
